Nufarm strengthens UK business

Melbourne based crop protection company, Nufarm Limited, has restructured its United Kingdom business in an effort to boost market share of its branded products.

Nufarm has acquired the 50% it did not already own of a joint venture company (Nufarm-Whyte Agriculture) which previously managed supply and sales activities in the UK. The business will now be renamed Nufarm Agriculture UK, with the operations to be relocated to Nufarm’s Belvedere facilities in Kent. Details of the acquisition terms were not disclosed.

Nufarm says it has a strong opportunity to grow sales of branded crop protection products in the UK, a market where most of the company’s business has been based on sales of technical (unformulated) product to other major suppliers.

“We are coming off a very low base so far as Nufarm branded product is concerned,” said Doug Rathbone, Nufarm’s Managing Director. “The UK market is valued at some £350 million and the restructuring we have implemented will help facilitate some positive growth in that market over the next few years.”

Nufarm Agriculture UK will now supply some 120 crop protection products and has employed an additional eight people in sales and product support roles.

“Nufarm continues to invest in establishing the Nufarm brand in international markets. We remain very ambitious to expand the business on a global basis,” Mr Rathbone said.
