Nufarm Brown Rust trial 2007
|
Don't let your yields rust away
|
Every year Nufarm sponsor a series of fungicide trials. In 2007, Septoria and Brown Rust were the dominant diseases but 2007 will be remembered as a Brown Rust year. Brown Rust has always been a relatively minor disease in the UK until now. This year some varieties thought to have a high resistance rating have become severely infected. The strain of Brown Rust attacking crops appears to be able to tolerate lower temperatures associated with the colder UK climate.
One trial at Heckington developed very high levels of Brown Rust with the untreated plots yielding a pitiful 5 tonne per hectare
The best treatment consisting of Tebuconazole + chlorothalonil gave a yield response of 1.9 tonne per hectare.

This trial demonstrates the destructive nature of Brown Rust. For every 1% Brown Rust on leaf 2 and 3 there was a yield loss of 66Kg/hectare or approximately £8/ ha at 2007 harvest prices
Grail and tebuconazole + Chlorothalonil gave £5.00 return for every £1 spent.
