Oilseed rape disease control should begin in the autumn

The area of oilseed rape in the UK has increased in recent years and oilseed rape remains one of the most profitable break crops. The price of oilseed rape reached £170 per tonne in the 2007 harvest and higher prices are set to continue. A cost-effective disease control programme is very important to maximise the profitability of this crop.

Nufarm have carried out a number of trials in the UK. One of the most cost effective treatments was the use of Delsene 50 Flo which gave an excellent return over the cost of the spray.

Phoma, a growing problem especially in the South and East
Light leaf spot is a problem in most parts of the UK, especially the North

Disease control programmes must begin in the autumn. Early November is the best time. This is when the oilseed rape plant is most vulnerable from attack from Phoma. Difcor containing difenconazole is particularly effective against this disease. It will also control Light leaf spot in the autumn too.
