Polymerisation Inhibitors

Nufarm UK Limited is one of the World's principal suppliers of polymerisation control agents for the petrochemical industry.

We produce our polymerisation inhibitor and retarder products at our UK manufacturing facility at Wyke for supply to many of the major petrochemical companies throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and the Americas.

As well as producing industry standard products, we have a successful Research and Development team that have developed and patented a new range of anti-polymerants. This is now enabling Nufarm to provide solutions to polymer problems in a wide range of petrochemical processes. These include retarders and inhibitors for styrenics, together with antioxidants and inhibitors for acrylics, butadiene, ethylene and many more.

Stable Free Radical Inhbitors: Nufarm is one of the principal manufacturers of piperidine based stable free radical molecules, generically known as Tempos. We are lead registrants in REACH for the industry standard molecules 4-Oxo and 4-Hydroxy Tempo and we also commercially produce two other Tempo molecules that have specialist applications in polymer inhibition.
Our Tempo molecules are available in a range of dilutions, solvents and packaging that is best suited to your process

The AHM 700 Series (DNBP plus Tempo above 5% content) is now off-patent in all parts of the World in which we operate. This is the most cost-effective system for many plants and the one-pack product can give reduced polymer and reduced purchase costs and it simplifies logistics and dosing. Nufarm has a very well equipped instrument laboratory at Wyke. As well as GC, LC and FTIR machines we have Mass Spec, pyrolysis Mass Spec, Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR, ESR), Diffential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Ion chromatography, GPC and ICP for metals analysis. For other analysis such as NMR we use equipment at local universities. We have recently built a pilot plant (picture right) to allow better simulation of plant injections and operating conditions

Controlled or Living Polymerization is a growing application for the TEMPO type true inhibitors. The Tempos allow polymers to be produced with very low polydispersity and this can give different properties to the final polymer. Tempos as oxidation catalysts
Tempos are used as catalysts for mild and selective oxidations and there is a wealth of published articles in journals and patents covering this use. They are used in the paper industry in the pulp bleaching process. Please contact us for further information

Manufacturing plants at Wyke, Bradford
All of our manufacturing and formulation takes place at the Wyke facilty in the UK. The site is registered to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards. We have manufactured DNBP at Wyke since 1947, firstly as a herbicide and then since the mid-1980s as a polymerisation inhibitor. TEMPOs have been manufactured here since the mid 1990s.
All our products are analyzed before leaving the site by our QC department and Nufarm has a dedicated registration team dealing with regulatory issues, including REACH. Supply Chain
Nufarm have supplied polymerization inhibitors and retarders to to the monomer industry for the last 30 years. Our first class Supply Chain team organize deliveries to all corners of the World by road, rail, sea and air. Inhibitor products are normally supplied in bulk isotanks, 1cuM intermediate bulk containers, drums or kegs.
