The key to maintaining straw stiffness is a 'little and often' approach by applying a programme of plant growth regulators rather than applying a large dose all at once. All Nufarm 3C chlormequat products carry a split dose recommendation in winter wheat
Nufarm tested a number of early applied plant growth regulator treatrments in 2006. Chlormequat (Stabilan 700) performed well, especially when applied as a split treatment. See graph below showing the straw shortening effect of a range of treatments
Stabilan also gave a cost-effective yield response of over a fifth of a tonne per hectare even in the absence of lodging
