Wyke manufacturing facility

The Wyke site, which was established in 1877 as a Picric Acid manufacturer, is now owned by Nufarm and is a manufacturer of Phenoxy herbicides, Glyphosate, intermediates and inhibitors. The site employs over 300 people and is the largest flexible phenoxy production unit in the world.

Phenoxy herbicides represent a global market in excess of USD550 million, making them one of the largest herbicide product segments. Used for broadleaved weed control in cereal crops, pasture and a range of non-crop and turf applications, there has been strong growth in the segment in recent years.
Nufarm has important phenoxy herbicide supply positions with a number of global crop protection companies.
The Wyke site is also a major formulator and packer of Glyphosate products.
Nufarm manufactures a wide range of speciality chemicals for use in a diverse number of applications. The Wyke site is most widely known as a supplier of phenoxy propionic, acetic and butyric herbicides in the form of CMPP-p and DP-p, MCPA and 2,4-D, MCPB and DB, to the agricultural sector.
The above active ingredients are formulated and subsequently marketed under a number of trade names. The key brands are the OPTICA, AGROXONE, MATON, BUTOXONE and HERBOXONE.
Nufarm offers expertise to develop new herbicide formulations. We have the facility to conduct field trials on commercial farms and maintain close links with authorities outside the UK, in order to establish development programmes world wide.
Our Regulatory Affairs group ensures that the requirements of various registration authorities are met. Through membership of Industry Task Forces, Nufarm has ownership of the latest toxicological and environmental data on our active ingredients, essential for meeting the stringent requirements of registration authorities worldwide.
