Nufarm Introduces RiteWay™ PGR/Thinner for the Apple Market
|
Burr Ridge, IL – Nufarm Americas announces the addition of RiteWay™, a new 6-BA plant growth regulator/thinner, to their robust apple product portfolio for the 2006 growing season. RiteWay is intended as an improvement and eventual replacement for Nufarm’s existing RiteSize™ product due to its enhanced formulation and expanded label.
“Adding this product to our existing line is yet another example of Nufarm’s commitment to the apple market and to providing our customers more valuable options,” notes Tim Stoehr, Nufarm’s U.S. Director of Business Development & Marketing.
RiteWay’s active ingredient, 6-benzyadenine (6-BA), is in a class of growth regulators know as cytokinins that promote cell division and bud initiation in plants. 6-BA is used on various apple varieties and is unique in that it both increases the size and thins fruit. Larger fruit and enhanced return bloom are especially critical to cultivation and the success of varieties such as Gala apples.
“The cost of utilizing a chemical thinner is small when compared to the benefit realized by the grower, which is why it has become a critical part of their crop management program,” adds Stoehr.
The new RiteWay formulation contains 1.9% 6-BA (which is slightly higher than the old RiteSize formulation) and has no gibberellic acid. The expanded RiteWay label allows for a higher concentration of 6-BA to be applied, providing a range of rate options from mild through aggressive thinning. RiteWay is currently under EPA consideration for use in the pistachio markets for the 2007 season.
Nufarm also markets BlightBan® A506, Mycoshield®, Agri-Mycin® 17 bactericides, Typy and TypRus plant growth regulators and a variety of copper products in the apple market in addition to a broad line of selective and non-selective herbicides.
